Our first annual BBQ knife fight picnic was a great success! Our Adult and Teen students met at North Weddington Park and enjoyed a huge BBQ potluck plus rubber knife fighting in white T-shirts. We dipped our knives in BBQ sauce and went at it for most of the afternoon. FIT EXPO – SAT, JAN 25TH 2014 Sifu Tei and his Los Angeles Kung Fu Demo Team are featured performers at the L.A. Fit Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Saturday, January 25th. Our students as well as students from Roosevelt Elementary, Rio Vista Elementary and Stevenson Elementary joined us for a day of Kung Fu, board games, movies, relay races and Menchie’s. C.A.M.A. CELEBRATES 18TH ANNIVERSARY August 10th, 2013. We celebrated our 18th anniversary with our annual anniversary potluck BBQ at Brace Canyon Park in Burbank. SIFU TEI CERTIFIES NEW WING CHUN MASTERS June 6th, 2013. Sifu Tei has certified Patricia Whitehead and Rufino Cuevas as Sifus, or masters, of the Wing Chun system through the Ip Man-Ving Tsun Athletic Association. Patricia (better known as Sifu Patty) has been a student since age 8 and Rufino for 6 years. Rufino’s daughters, Xochitl (age 5) and Itzel (age 3) are students in our Little Pandas program for preschoolers. Congratulations to them on their great achievement. MEMORIAL DAY CAMP – MONDAY, MAY 27TH 2013 Our annual Memorial Day Martial Arts Camp was a smash! Campers enjoyed a day of Kung Fu, self-defense drills, foam sword combat training, and games. Lantern Festival Los Angeles March 2nd, 2013. Our Wing Chun Demo Team was invited to perform at the 13th Annual Lantern Festival at downtown’s Chinese American Museum. Our Lunar New Year party to celebrate the Year of the Snake was a great success, with 50+ kids and adults in attendance for Chinese food and desserts, crafts, and games. Anti-Kidnapping Seminar for Kids November 3rd, 2012. We’re excited to announce our comprehensive anti-kidnapping seminar for kids ages 3-13. We’ll cover how to avoid kidnapping and abduction, discussing everything from street safety and prevention to active resistance and escape. The seminar is split into two parts: 10-11 am: Ages 3-5. A parent or guardian must attend the class with their child. 11 am – 1 pm: Ages 6-13. No parent is required, but parents are encouraged to stay and observe. This anti-abduction seminar will incorporate reenactments of famous kidnappings, role-playing of street safety and kidnapping prevention techniques, discussion of topics ranging from calling 911 to maintaining privacy on social media, and a Q&A session. Children will also extensively practice striking and kicking vital targets. This seminar is free to our students, their siblings, and adult students’ children. Our students, friends & families gathered to celebrate our kung fu school’s 17th Anniversary. We held our annual BBQ potluck picnic at Brace Canyon Park in Burbank once again! Thanks to all who joined us in celebrating 17 amazing years teaching Wing Chun in Los Angeles. Wing Chun Demonstration in San Diego, CA February 18, 2012. Our Kung Fu Los Angeles ‘demo’ team performed to a packed audience of over 1,000 people at the International Art Festival in Poway, CA, just outside San Diego. The demonstration featured Wing Chun fight choreography by Sifu Tei, Shaolin and Tai Chi forms by Sifu Nancy and senior instructors Christopher Marshall and Patricia Whitehead, and Kung Fu weaponry. 1000 Ways to Die Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Sifu Tei recently shot new episodes in his role as martial arts expert on Spike TV’s popular show “1000 Ways to Die*”. The show recreates unusual deaths and includes interviews from experts detailing the science behind the deaths. Sifu Tei was previously featured on episodes “Samu-Fry” and “You’re Dead! LOL!”. *Due to its content the show is not recommended for younger viewers. Ip Man 2 Demonstration Saturday, January 29th, 2011. Sifu Tei led a team of California Academy of Martial Arts instructors in a Wing Chun Kung Fu demonstration at Mann Grauman’s Chinese Theater on Hollywood/Highland. Sifu and Instructors Paul, Gannon & Mark demonstrated chi sau, defense against multiple attacks, simultaneous attack and defense, and many other aspects of our Wing Chun style. Ip Man 2 is a fantastic film and we highly recommend it. George Lopez/Lopez Tonight 15-Year Anniversary Potluck & Picnic July 2010. California Academy of Martial Arts celebrated its 15th year in Burbank! We celebrated with a barbecue and potluck picnic at Brace Canyon Park. It was very hot, but the kids (and several adults) kept cool with water guns. Many families brought their dogs to join in on the fun, too! Thanks to all who attended! WING CHUN GRANDMASTER IP CHING (son of Ip Man) COMES TO CALIFORNIA ACADEMY OF MARTIAL ARTS! Grandmaster of Wing Chun Kung Fu Ip Ching recently came to Burbank, California to teach a Wing Chun Seminar at Sifu Todd Shawn Tei’s school, California Academy of Martial Arts. The Seminar participants were very enthusiastic as Master Ip Ching began the first day of his two day Wing Chun Seminar. People came from across the nation to learn from Master Ip Ching, the foremost authority in Wing Chun today. Showing the skills passed down from his father, Ip Man, famous for teaching Bruce Lee, Grandmaster Ip Ching was truly outstanding in the demonstration and execution of all of his techniques. The amazed crowd applauded every time he finished a form or demonstrated a movement.
